The National Natural Park of Shatsk Lakes in Volyn region (the total area is 32,5 thousand hectares) was founded in 1983 for the protection and study of natural systems of Polesie, organization of tourism and recreation in this region. The park consists of the most picturesque parts of Shatsk lakes including Lake Svitiaz, Lake Pesochnoe and Luke, etc. The lakes are connected by channels. The water area of lakes and coastal thickets is a nesting of waterfowl. Pine plantations is predominant in lowland. Among them: alders, birch and there are parts of oak and pine forests. Swamp area full with abundant vegetation, rare and medicinal plants. There are many endemics. The fauna includes: wolf, marten, moose, otter, wild boar, hare, squirrel, raccoon dog, etc.
Park represents high recreational and aesthetic value. There are protected area, recreation area, equipped with road network, parking lots, campsites, recreational facilities around the lakes Svitiaz, Pesochnoe, etc. Through the park area passes highway Lvov-Brest.
